Swim Pro Service & Supply, a family-owned pool service company, has completed a series of commercial aquatic system upgrades at YMCA Whitaker. The work included installation of a new ultraviolet disinfection system in May 2026, followed by a full filter media replacement in both commercial sand filters on July 16, 2026. The projects addressed chloramines, water clarity, and air quality at the facility while restoring filtration performance in large-scale equipment used for public swimming.

The ultraviolet project involved removal of an existing UV unit and installation of an NSF/ANSI 50 certified commercial ultraviolet disinfection system designed for aquatic facilities. The system uses medium-pressure UV lamp technology to reduce chloramines, improve water clarity, and provide secondary disinfection against chlorine-resistant organisms. Technicians isolated and drained the existing unit, disconnected electrical connections, installed a new stainless steel UV chamber into the existing piping configuration, completed minor plumbing modifications for alignment, and reconnected the system to circulation piping. The team also mounted a control panel, completed electrical integration, and coordinated system startup.

Equipment for the ultraviolet installation included a stainless steel reactor chamber for horizontal installation, a medium-pressure UV lamp system with 200 to 400 nanometer output, an automatic self-wiping quartz sleeve cleaning system, integrated UV intensity monitoring with alarm protection, and a control panel with adjustable output and system diagnostics. The setup also included flow-based performance adjustment capability and a factory-supplied strainer assembly.

The second phase focused on both Nemato and National Line NFS-42-10B-200E horizontal commercial sand filters. Existing sand and gravel media had aged and were no longer filtering as effectively, contributing to chloramine formation and reduced water clarity. Swim Pro Service & Supply removed more than 4,000 pounds of old sand and gravel with a vacuum truck, drained and opened the filter vessels, inspected internal laterals and underdrain components, and installed new Zeobrite filter media. Approximately 100 bags of 50-pound Zeobrite media, totaling about 5,000 pounds, were placed in the two high-rate commercial filters. The team then reassembled the vessels, completed system startup, performed backwash and rinse cycles, and verified operation.

The filter media replacement was a four-person project involving Service Operations Manager Kevin, Co-Owner Patrick, Technician Jarred, and Technician Alex. The scale of the filters required coordinated removal of spent media and precise placement of new material to restore flow distribution and long-term filter performance.

Patrick Staar and Alysia Staar serve as co-owners of the family-owned business. The YMCA Whitaker projects reflect the company’s commercial capabilities, which include equipment installation, maintenance programs for high-volume facilities, water quality management, and health department compliance support.
