Machine Specialty & Manufacturing Inc. is marking 44 years of hub flange manufacturing in 2026, a record that dates to the company’s founding in 1982 and reflects more than four decades of supplying pressure-rated components to the oil and gas industry. The milestone highlights the company’s continued focus on precision-machined flanges built to American Petroleum Institute standards.
Machine Specialty & Manufacturing was founded by company president Andy Vigé, who grew the business through consistent workmanship and close attention to customer requirements. The independently run, privately owned manufacturer has kept hub flanges and hub blind flanges at the center of its product line through decades of change in drilling technology, well pressures, and production practices.
A hub flange features a raised neck, or hub, that reinforces the area where the flange joins pipe or equipment, helping distribute stress during high-pressure service. Hub blind flanges apply the same reinforced design to seal off the end of a line, valve, or pressure vessel. Both are common components in wellhead assemblies, pressure control equipment, and upstream production systems.
“Hub flanges have been part of this company since the beginning, and the fundamentals have not changed,” said Max Hutson, Vice President of Operations at Machine Specialty & Manufacturing. “A flange that holds pressure in the field starts with accurate machining, clean sealing surfaces, and documentation that operators can trust. That has been the standard here for 44 years, and it is the same standard applied to every part leaving the shop today.”
The company’s current catalog includes hub blind flanges in 3,000 and 5,000 pound pressure ratings, with nominal sizes ranging from 2-1/16 inch to 4-1/16 inch. Its broader flange line covers blind, threaded, and weldneck flanges in pressure ratings from 2,000 to 15,000 pounds. When a standard part does not match a project’s requirements, the company machines custom flanges and fittings to customer specifications.
Production takes place at the company’s Youngsville facility, which houses more than 75 CNC machining centers along with in-house non-destructive testing, stress-relieving furnaces, welding, repair and assembly operations, and hydrostatic testing. Keeping these processes under one roof allows inspection and verification at each stage of manufacturing rather than relying on outside vendors.
Machine Specialty & Manufacturing holds API registrations, including registration under API Specification 6A for wellhead and Christmas tree equipment, as well as a quality management system registration. These registrations confirm that products comply with recognized industry requirements, which can reduce the need for additional third-party inspection during procurement. Customers can access material test reports through the company’s online MTR portal.
“The oil and gas industry has asked more of its equipment every decade, with deeper wells and higher operating pressures,” Hutson said. “The experience built over four decades is what allows the team to respond quickly when an operator needs a standard flange on a tight timeline or a custom part that has never been made before.”
Beyond flange production, the company offers welding and fabrication, corrosion-resistant alloy weld cladding and overlay, post-weld heat treatment, and repair and recertification services. Cladding with corrosion-resistant alloys can extend the service life of flanges and fittings used in sour or otherwise corrosive environments, while recertification allows existing components to be inspected and returned to service.
Workplace safety remains a priority at the Youngsville operation. Under the direction of a dedicated safety director, the company maintains mandatory safety programs and holds monthly meetings that address job-specific hazards and give employees an opportunity to raise concerns about their working environment.
As energy producers continue to emphasize reliability and regulatory compliance, demand for well-documented, pressure-rated components remains steady. Machine Specialty & Manufacturing’s long history in hub flange production positions the company to continue serving drilling contractors, equipment manufacturers, and production operators across the energy sector.
